I am a rare and lucky person.
After a lot of putting facts together and consideration, going back on Depo-provera has turned out to be the miracle cure I had hoped it would be. I have not had a migraine in weeks. I have not had much of a headache to speak of in weeks. Small tension type headaches from work, but I know why those are there.
I am still on the topamax and coming off it and the zoloft will be the next step in seeing how much the Depo is eliminating all of my headaches, but I know for sure it is eliminating my migraines.
I am lucky. I feel blessed and happy. My questions of what to do long term still remain and I have not addressed them yet. I know being on depo has some side effects, such as calcium loss, the number one reason I came off of it in the first place and I do not know if a hysterectomy would do the same thing for me as having depo in my system does.
These are all things that still lie ahead of me. For now, I am enjoying my days of headache freedom.
I hope that everyone can find their own "cure" or at least their own cocktail that keeps the pain at bay.

You are so blessed to have found a way to get rid of the migraines! I hope the headaches go away also; I have chronic daily headache and can relate to your experiences. I actually have the Mirena IUD right now (it's been about a year), and I have a feeling it's making my headaches worse. Before that, I tried taking birth control with no breaks for periods 3 months straight (and I tried it for about 6 months), but it didn't work. I may ask my gyno about the Depo. It stinks though because my insurance didn't cover the IUD, so I had to pay more than $1000 for it and the insertion. Oh well...
Feel free to check out my blog:

I think I may have spoken too soon. I had a super bad headache last night, but was able to keep it under control with Imitrex. I felt a bit like a failure, but honestly, the depo has cut them back so so much and I can't ask for more then that. One every 2 months is nothing compared to one every 3-4 days. Nothing at all.
I know the Depo helps because it eliminates my periods and thus stops that up and down cycle of horomones that gives my head a chance to go kablooey.
Good luck to you too.
congratulations on your few weeks of feeling great!! even if you had a bad night, hey - think about those great weeks, and the strides you have made. Great news!
Hi, I'm very new to blogging but wanted to share this... I know, I know, it is so hard to know what to do about migraines. I am 50 and have been having them for about 17 years now. This comment rattled me and is why I am responding, only to share my experience...
"...and I do not know if a hysterectomy would do the same thing for me as having depo in my system does." I had a hysterectomy three years ago because of a huge fast growing tumor. I opted to also have my ovaries removed in addition to the uterus, which was necessary. I had my ovaries removed because I was sure that this would make my migraines go away. No one told me it would, but I was sure of it because I had not doubt that my migraines were hormonal. I could time them like clockwork, coinciding with two spiking times in my cycle. My sister's migraines also coincide with her menstrual cyle. My mother's too. My mother's migraines went away with menopause. --- I took a homone prescription (two different ones) for the first two years or so. I have been off hormone therapy for the past nine months. None of this has made my migraines go away. My pattern is not the same, but I do still have migraines. I am just finishing a nasty one right now. It has been a very I ma just sharing my expereince with the surgery issue. Even though I am very thankful that the turmor was discovered and removed, there have many many psycological and emotional issues to deal with as a result of the surgery and of the continued migraines. My very best wishes to you with your decisions.
Thank you Janet, I appreciate your feedback. I have not looked any further into having a hysterectomy at this point. I am still just chugging along with the depo. In fact, I have had some migraines on it. They are far reduced, but there. I feel a hysterectomy would probably not solve my problems.
I hope you find some way to reduce your migraines. Heres hoping for a pain free day.
Thank you
